This was the appearance of the Old College in the late 1660s. High Street fronts the quadrangle (toward the viewer), and north is left. This common and popular image was taken from Captain John Slezer, published in his Theatrum Scotiae in 1693. The church in the upper right (southeast part of the view) was the Blackfriars Church, destroyed by lightning in 1670. The view is east.
